How To Win The Long Tail

This page tries to collect some examples about the long-tail phenomena

The long tail happens if you take something that has a high cost of failure and make it a very low cost of failure so that everybody can try. We have seen the power of user-generated content already on many different platforms:

Youtube gave everyone the chance to make videos and gain followers. Wordpress gave everyone the chance to write content and gain followers. Instagram gave everyone the chance to upload pictures and gain followers. EventScouts now gives everyone the chance to make lists and gain followers - in some cases doing so with only drag&drop. ***

List creation can be done by different types of users for very different use-cases:

- Tourism offices (want to do marketing of their destination) - Users preparing their own list for upcoming travels - Users preparing a list (after they travel) for their friends who also plan to visit the city - Users preparing an event-list or activity list for their niche communities - Hotels (want to provide inspiration lists for their guests) - Travel agencies (want to provide targeted inspiration lists to their clients) - Businesses (want to have an exposure on the platform) - Media companies (marketing / traffic) - Bloggers (marketing / traffic)

Not all of those parties have the same interest to create lists. At the very beginning we will target official tourism bureaus since we expect them to have an intrinsic interest to spread their content.

We also know that 99% of all the users will never create any kind of list or content. However, users can simply click the “follow” button to save the entire content of a list and have it always ready and available on the front page of the EventScouts App. ***
